Composite Repairs
The latest composite materials have amazing properties. They are very gentle and have characteristics similar to the tooth itself. Such composite can be modeled directly on the teeth without affecting the original tooth. By using composites, worn front teeth can be extended, discolored teeth can be made white again, and chips can be repaired. The two-layer technique uses dentin color and enamel color to sculpt the teeth according to the tooth's natural anatomy. This makes it possible to achieve great aesthetic results, where the tooth looks largely intact.
To achieve the best possible results, it is possible to bleach your teeth before treatment. To protect the teeth as well as prolong the life of the composite, we recommend a mouth guard be used at night. Composite is the natural first choice after an accident or to make aesthetic improvements in young individuals. It is more affordable, faster and gentler for the teeth than porcelain veneers and is therefore a good alternative when considering aesthetic repairs or improvements.
Porcelain Veneers
A porcelain veneer is a thin shell of ceramic material that is glued to the front of your teeth. The veneer hides unsightly fillings as well as cracked, chipped, or discolored teeth. Veneers can also be used to hide large gaps or to correct an uneven row of teeth. Porcelain veneers give the teeth a nicer appearance, not only in terms of color, but also in shape and size. The porcelain veneers are very thin and cemented to the visible part of the tooth. Sometimes the veneers are so thin that we can cement them directly onto your own enamel without having to drill. They are made by our dental technician who uses luminescent, fluorescent and opalescent varieties of porcelain that provide unparalleled aesthetic properties, very close to the natural tooth.
Porcelain veneers are individually adapted for each patient and each tooth. They can last for a long time, look incredibly natural, and cause very little damage to the tooth while providing great improvement to the appearance of the teeth. A porcelain veneer reflects the tooth’s own color and the result is natural and beautiful. We decide the color of the porcelain together with the patient, and it may be good to visit the dental technician for color selection as well. Shell crowns resemble the porcelain veneer, but have a somewhat greater coverage of the tooth due to an existing damage or a previously larger plastic filling.
Porcelain Crowns
A porcelain crown is an option for teeth that have been damaged to the point where there is significant loss of tooth substance. In such cases a filling is not considered a durable solution, so a porcelain crown is used instead. Ugly fillings, cracked, chipped, and discolored teeth can be hidden under porcelain crowns. It is also possible to aesthetically improve and reinforce teeth that have numerous or large fillings. The difference between a porcelain crown and a porcelain veneer is that a crown goes around the entire tooth whereas the veneer covers the front.
In order to apply a porcelain crown, the damaged tooth needs to be ground down and adjusted. An impression of the tooth is taken and given to our dental technician. Each crown is produced individually, and manufactured by IPS E-max which gives a fantastic aesthetic result. Crowns mainly used for the front teeth have a core of lithium disilicate. Crowns mainly used for the molars have a core that is reinforced with zirconium material. The crown is cemented on the remaining part of the tooth, and restores the function of the tooth as well as improving the tooth’s appearance.
Porcelain Bridges
A bridge construction is a well-proven alternative to replacing one or more missing teeth due to extensive dental injuries, trauma or missing teeth. To be able to use nearby teeth as bridge supports, we must grind and adjust them. Then we take an imprint of the bite and pass it on to our dental technician. Previously, it was only possible to produce bridge structures with a metal core, however the new generation bridges can be manufactured sustainably with a metal-free zirconium core covered with porcelain. Thanks to the strength of the zirconium oxide, this material is suitable as a bridge construction and offers a good prognosis when correctly installed.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a very common, sought after aesthetic treatment. The base color of a tooth can shift between white to yellow, brown and blue as well as gray. Discoloration of the teeth mainly occurs due to external factors such as tobacco, red wine, coffee, tea or spices. Even internal factors such as genetic, medical, dental or environmental factors have a major impact on the color of the tooth. A prerequisite for being able to perform a bleaching treatment is a healthy mouth and teeth. This is important because a teeth whitening treatment means that any discoloration is chemically removed from the teeth. Therefore, we always do a checkup to ensure that there are no cavities, broken fillings, tooth loss or inflammation before we recommend a whitening treatment. We investigate the cause of the discoloration and based on that information, the degree of discoloration and treatment goals, we determine an appropriate bleaching method as well as recommended treatment time.
We offer home whitening treatments, a method recommended by the National Board of Health and Welfare. First we take an impression of your teeth to produce an individually designed bleaching tray made of soft plastic to be used at night in combination with bleach containing hydrogen peroxide. When the bleach comes in contact with the tooth, hydrogen is released, breaking down the color pigments causing the discoloration. The treatment is repeated for a maximum of 10 nights and will gradually give you whiter teeth. You should also strengthen your teeth with fluoride when you do a whitening treatment. There is also a bleaching method where the treatment is performed by us at the clinic with an extra light source. The treatment time is then considerably shorter, but in our experience, the treatment result is more lasting after you have performed home bleaching. In addition, you can save your trays and use them again on later occasions. Individuals undergoing hydrogen peroxide bleaching must be over 18 years of age.
