How does it work?
During this visit, we do a clinical examination. You have the opportunity to ask questions, and based on your wishes and your circumstances, we make an assessment of what we can do for you. In addition, you get a preliminary cost estimate for different treatment options. If you are satisfied and interested in continuing, you may book a new time for registration. At this time you will receive a more definitive treatment proposal.
Panoramic X-ray: We take a full picture of the jaws to see the teeth, roots, adjacent bone structure, jaw joints as well as to locate missing or misplaced teeth.
Profile X-ray: We take a complete image of the side of the face that is used to determine the upper and lower jaws’ relation to each other including the incline of each jaw.
Intraoral X-ray: We take several small pictures of your front teeth.
Clinical Photography: We take images of your teeth and your face from different angles.
Impression: In order to make plaster models of your teeth, thus getting a better idea of your bite, we take an impression of your teeth.
Based on your wishes and the information gathered, we present an individually adapted treatment proposal. You will be informed about the estimated treatment time as well as any risks. We work with several modern techniques, so the specialist consulting with you determines the type of braces that are most suitable for you. You will also receive a written cost estimate. If you are a minor, your guardians should be present during this visit. This usually takes about 30 minutes.
The teeth are cleaned and polished. Then the brackets for the braces are glued to the teeth. You will receive information on oral hygiene as well as care instructions for braces.
Depending on the choice of braces, we will book times for adjusting the dental brace every four to eight weeks.
We remove the braces and polish your teeth. Depending on your dental issues, you will receive a retainer with associated care advice. We also make a final documentation of your teeth and jaw.
In order to maintain results, we will call you for checkups at specific intervals over the next few years.
“We work with “face driven” orthodontics. This means putting a lot of weight on the face as part of the treatment plan before guiding the teeth in the right place. This allows us to create stability in the bite and harmony of the face.”
What kind of braces?
An attached set of braces on the outside of the teeth is the most common method for correcting most bite deviations. You can choose between metal and ceramic brackets that are more tooth-colored and discreet. Small brackets with a built-in groove, each tailor-made for the specific tooth, are glued to the teeth. Then, a flexible wire is placed in the groove called an archwire. Each groove is designed at the right angle for the specific tooth and by applying a small, controlled, but constant force, you can begin to move the teeth. Once the teeth have straightened, a coarser and stiffer bow is inserted in order to move the teeth to their ideal positions. This well-proven and effective method has been used for decades and is still the most widely used option for treating all types of bite abnormalities - from mild to very complex bite abnormalities.
Aligners are a modern orthodontic system that uses a specially adapted series of aligners. These aligners are individually designed for each patient and gradually straighten the teeth. After a digital impression of your teeth, our specialist dentists will use advanced 3D software to plan your orthodontic treatment. You will then be given a series of aligners to wear for at least 22 hours a day and changed weekly until the treatment is complete. Since these aligners are removable, it is much easier to clean your teeth, and you can also go without aligners on special occasions. Spark, Invisalign, and ClearCorrect are three of the most well-known systems for invisible orthodontics and offer an effective and aesthetic alternative to traditional braces. This method is ideal for mild to moderate bite abnormalities. Find out more about Invisalign here.
